About the Artist
Jin Lim’s mixed media paintings are inspired by the holographic principle which posits that we and our three-dimensional world are mere holographic reconstructions of encoded pixels that reside in a boundary surface at the edge of the universe. Utilizing a combination of two- and three-dimensional painted areas and pixelated images printed directly on the surface of the canvas, Jin questions whether we are real or nothing more than simulations living in a simulated reality. The mixed media nature of her work raises the still unanswered question of what transforms two-dimensional holographic reality into the three-dimensional reconstructions that we know as our own reality.
